Top Snorkeling and Scuba Diving in North Sulawesi

Great red gorgonians; coral gardens, including orange tree corals... Excellent for macro. Just south of Pulau Putus, on the other side of the small islet.

Steep reef with good visibility. Nice corals, rare critters (shy jaw fish), and also some cleaning stations. Northwest coast of Lembeh Island.

Great hard and soft corals; with a lot of yellow tube corals (Tubastrea). Great fish life, including Napoleon wrasses. Small islet located at the extreme north of Lembeh island.

The Mawali is a 65m long Japanese World War II steel cargo ship wreck. It was scuttled and sank by USS aircraft in 1944. The Malawi now lies on its port side between 15 to 30 m deep. The highlight of the dive is its many large lionfish around the masts. Approx 4 km south of Lembeh resorts (10 mins by boat). Mawali Wreck is also known as Tanduk Rusa wreck, Sekino Maru.

Gentle slope then a wall. Sharks may be seen in the area. Close to the Thalassa resort

Great wall and huge blackfin barracudas shoals, , jacks, tunas and occasionally grey sharks and hammerhead sharks. Northwest side of Montehage island Barracuda point is also known as Barakuda.

Starting from a sandy slope, then moving to a wall. nice corals and soft corals. Many sea fans and barrels sponges. Eastern side of Montehage island Tangkasi is also known as Tangka Si.

Sandy area with coral boulders; there is also a small wooden wreck at about 24m. Close to the Santika Resort, near Badjo Kima. Tanjung Tihowo is also known as Tanjung Tiwoho, Kalunpang.

Siladen Timur is located on the east side of Siladen Island.

Sandy area with coral blocks and artificial structures. This is a very rich marine life including squids, Mandarin dragonets, Black Harlequin ghostfishes, etc. Close to the Tasik Ria Resort.

Slope with outstanding soft corals Southern point of Montehage island, near the village of bango.

This is a huge underwater pinnacle divided from the reef by a deep canyon. The interesting part of this dive starts at 40m deep; it is for very advanced divers ONLY. The caves are near 60m deep. The reef around is also nice, some dolphins or pilot whales may be seen. Southwest side of Nain island. Approx 40 min from Bunaken Island. Batu Kapal is also known as Ship Rock.

Seagrass beds and sponges, then a slope with dark sand that hosts a lot of marine life; including the famous weedy scorpionfishes (Rhinopias frondosa). Tanawangko, south of Manado and close to the Minahasa Lagoon Resort at the foot of the Lokon volcano Poopoh is also known as Popo.

The Bimoli was 100m long Japanese freighter which sank during the second world war (torpedoed by USS submarine Swordfish January 24th, 1942). It was carrying bakelite, which is still there. She now lies on her starboard at a maximum of 35m deep (top around 18m, propeller at at 30m). The Bimoli lies just west to Bitung, in the middle of the strait. Bimoli wreck is also known as Myoken Maru.

Drift dive wher you can encounter see eagle ray, stingray and thousands of butterfly fish. Situated opposite to the village of Bunaken; southeast tip of the island. Muka Kampung is also known as Depan Kampung.

The ship sunk in this site, probably was Japanese cargo Kongo Maru nº 21 (411 GRT / built 1942). This ship ship was attacked and sunk 24/8/44 by USS airplanes. Just 5 minutes from Molas Beach, close to Baraccuda Dive Center and NDC Molas Wreck is also known as Kongo Maru nº 21.

Fantastic drift dive with turtles, shark, eagle ray, fusilier, moray eels etc. In the strait between Bunaken and Manado Tua Mandolin is also known as Mandolin Point.

A great variety of sea slugs. Great place for macro photographers. Northwest side of Siladen Siladen Utara is also known as Spaghetti Crossing.

Angel's Window of the better dive sites at Lembeh Strait. The site has the usual load of strange critters, but here you're partialy diving on a reef instead of a muck environment. It is a really beautiful dive. Highly Recommended. Angel's Window is accessed by boat from many dive centers at Lembeh Strait. Angel's Window is also known as Angel Window.

Air Prang is probably one of the most interesting sites at Lembeh Strait. There is always a lot of cool stuff to be seen. Highlights in the past few years included Rhinopias Frondosa, Rhinopias Eschmeyri, Bobbit worms, Ribbon eels and more. Highly recommended! Access by boat (various dive centers and liveaboards available) Air Prang is also known as Aer Perang.

Serena didn't look very promising at first, but we were able to observe a blue ring octopus for quite a while and spotted some frog fish, cuttle fish and robust ghost pipe fish too. Access by boat (various dive centers and liveaboards available)

The main attraction at the House Reef of Divers Lodge Lembeh is a area with a lot of coral debris in a depth of about 6m which is inhabited by a large number of Mandarin fish. They are most active during dawn. On the deeper parts of the reef there are also other interesting animals like ornate ghostpipe fish Access by boat from Divers Lodge Lembeh

Tanduk Russa is a typical Lembeh Strait dive site, where you dive on black sand and search for strange critters. Access by boat from various dive centers and liveaboards

Pantai Parigi is another muck diving site at Lembeh Strait. In the shallow part of the dive site the are some coral blocks where you can find pipefish, tiny sea dragons and some nudibranch. In the deeper parts of the site you dive again on black sand and stand a good chance to see smashing mantis shrimp, frog fish, nudibrach and if you are lucky a wonderpus or a mimic octopus. Access by boat (various dive centers and liveaboards available) Pantai Parigi is also known as Pante Pargi.

Nudi Falls is one of the best known sites at Lembeh Strait. From the surface down to about 10m the is a wall which is covered with corals and lots of hydroids. On this wall you can also find many nudibrach if you dive there at the right time of the year. The deeper parts of the site has black sand ground with some coral blocks and there is a beautiful soft coral field on 23m. Access by boat only (various dive centers and liveaboards available)

At this dive site you can practically always see a large group of mackerels and batfish but also sometimes barracudas and shark. Coral cover is not so nice, specially around the 5 giant tridacna shells (giant clams) it is badly broken, but it is still a very nice place to dive because of the large schools of fish. Good spot for a shallow muck dive. Sea horses, frogfish and nudibranches can be found here. The site has been named after the Dutch Royal Mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven who is said to visit this quiet divesite every now and then.

A patchy reef and muck substrate, a sites mostly used for training the students Just a minute away from a Marine Ecotourism Campus (Manado State Polytechnic)

A complete ecosystem represent a mix patchy reef, muck and seagrass (Halophila sp and Syringodium, etc) from a stony shore to about 10 meter deep; continue with a muck or sand partly covered to about 30m deep or more. In about 10 meter deep an artificial reefBLOCK was deployed as a housereef, a conservation contribution from INDC (Indonesian Navy Diving Club) and MIORI DC, it also mark a historical sites whic set a new Guiness World Record of the Largest Scuba Diving Lesson and the most people Scuba Diving Simultaneously (more than 2,000 SCUBA divers) achieved by Indonesian Navy during The 64th Indonesian National Day Ceremony (17 August 2009). Share a same area with the only public beach in Manado, just a minute away from Larascasse resort, Dragonet and the terminal of Malalayang.

This site is just outside the jetty of the Thalassa Dive Centre. Langoustines, crab, nudibranches and snake eels can be spotted here.

Good spot for muck and night diving

You can start this dive as a muck dive looking for ghost pipefish, stargazers, sepia's and flounders. You can finish the dive on the shallow reef where harlequin sweetlips and mandarin fishes can be spotted.

Lots of puffers, porcupine fish, sepia's,. We spotted a white tip reef shark sleeping under a coral table. With a little luck you'll be able to find the world famous pygmee seahorse here.

This site was introduced by the Thalassa Dive Centre. During one dive we spotted several ribbon eels, morays, lionfish, boxer shripms, flounders, ghost pipefish and dragonets. It's a combined muck & reef dive.

This housereef is a historical conservation site, Corals as a main component of the reef - the host - was translocated and transplanted from other places that under threat from the reclamation to this site became Bigfish reef.
