St. Clair River

Great site, a few wrecks just under the Blue Water Bridge. Max depth about 80 feet and really fast current but has an eddy on the Michigan side with no current. I would not recommend diving this river the first time without an experienced St. Clair river diver. The wrecks can be challenging so dive with the fast current and you can become pinned to the wreck if not careful. The site is located at the end of the St. Clair river, in the North Channel, just before the split of the north channel, one heading northwest, the other southwest (the sny-bora). Just as the snybora splits, there will be a slow no wake buoy. Just beyond the slow no wake buoy, ripples will be noticed; this is the dive site. Anchor a boat on the river's edge, enter the water and descend at a 45 until you hit the bottom at about 28'. Then move forward until you reach the wreck. The wreck is a 40ft schooner facing north. Mostly intact with some of the deck collapsed. (Bring a spike to dig into the mud upon ascent)

Okay, we're in the Midwest. Reef Conditions don't apply. Night conditions: no sharks, vis pretty good- how is your flashlight? Rating can be over a 4, but for the Midwest it's a 7. Nice entry, no waves, no tide and a lot of fun for the beginner at night.

The St. Clair river offers a very challenging dive site because of the strong current. But for this dive I entered at the Huron Light Ship Museum and drifted down to the YMCA. Learning to use the current, and not fight it, make this drift dive very enjoyable. Lots of fish, relics, and lost fishing gear. Awesome river.

Blue water bridge to Black river, shore dive off the seawall. 20 ship wrecks within 3 miles, most are wooden schooners, current is fast and dangerous, need to dive with a local on your first couple of dives. Must be in good shape to climb back out of the water on the ladders. Dives are kicken!

Great place to dive for intermediate to advanced divers. No place for a beginner. I'm not referring to certification but rather experience.

Take time to make a dive near the Blue Water Bridge. You will enjoy vis up to 40 ft in the summer with the same water temp top to bottom. The current is rippin, so take someone with experience with you on your first couple of dives in this environment. More fish life seen here than anywhere else in the great lakes environment.

Great Place to Dive and there is even a wreck for you to see right there by Port Huron. The " Monarch" is a great dive for starters.
