Gran Canaria is an underwater resort on the south eastern tip that is only accessible from shore. Lots of moray eels, barracudas, huge mass of snappers, rays have been seen.

Boat or Shore Dive 32m -- This dive can start from the shore at Playa Barrilla or can be from the boat. The dive goes along the wall at the edge of the reef where there are lots of nooks and crannies to explore. Life on the wall is good; there are Sponges, Sea Mat, Sea Squirts and amongst them are Nudibranchs; but also look out to sea where there may be Barracuda, Grouper and Rays. There is a memorial to Dieter, a previous dive centre owner, at 30 metres and a small growth of pretty Red Tree Coral in an overhang at 28 metres. The dive continues over the sand on top of the reef where there is often a Grouper waiting for the divers.

Red Coral

Boat or Shore Dive 0m to 12m -- Usually starting from Playa de la Barrilla, this gentle dive takes divers out onto the natural extensions of the sheltering horseshoe arms of the bay. There is a long natural cave at 5 metres and the bay itself is very sheltered and home to vast shoals of tame fish. Look out for Grey Mullet, Sea Bream, Parrotfish, Lizardfish, Wrasse, Damselfish and Cuttlefish. At night Octopus, Angel Sharks and Tube Worms are commonly seen. This bay is used for training, refresher and night dives, but is worth exploring by all levels of diver.

Barrilla Reef

Small fishing bay, very clear water and shelter from any wind.  Steps to gain access to the water.  Lots of marine life and plant life.

Located on the south west coast of Tenerife, between Los Gigantes and Las Americas.

Marazul

Shore Dive 8m to 25m -- Mala is a small resort in the north east of Lanzarote. It is a fair way from anywhere else and attracts a number of naturists. There is an almost circular rocky cove which provides the swimming area and the entry and exit point for diving. To reach the cove involves a walk along, and then down the cliff on a rocky path where entry and exit to the water is by a ladder. This is not always possible so we will not undertake the journey to Mala when the winds are from the east or south and there is a swell running.  When conditions are good this is a pleasant dive over sand and rock. There are a number of rocky outcrops and an area with caves which can be entered. These are a photographer's delight. Shoals of fish swim around the rocks and Angel Sharks, Rays and Groupers are common. Two dives are possible here, one to the left and the other to the right, so a two dive day is possible at Mala.

Mala

Boat or Shore Dive 35m -- The dive starts moderately shallow over sand and follows a gully down to the reef. There is the wreck of a small boat and the shell of a car in the sand en route. In this area are numbers of large Spider Crabs. After reaching the reef swim with the wall on the right hand side. Trumpetfish are common here, and remember to keep a lookout to seaward to see Barracuda and Jacks. When it is time to go shallower turn back onto the top of the reef and swim into the shallower water

Trumpetfish Reef

Boat or Shore Dive 6m to 18m --This dive, near the wall of the small Fariones harbour, consists of a mixture of small reefs and sand. The dive can be in the shallower water around the harbour wall or can be on the long narrow outcrops at right angles to the shore or can be a mixture of the two. There's an abundance of small reef life and the occasional sighting of Angel Sharks.

Fariones House Reef

Boat or Shore Dive 32m--The Cathedral is a large natural cavern in the reef wall. Its entrance is about 10 metres tall. It's best to approach the Cathedral from mid-level on the wall or from above over the sand. Take a torch to see the abundance of life on the walls and roof and in the innermost point, which is like a small garden and is home to Cardinalfish and large Grouper. There are Yellow Horn Corals, Tube Worms and Prawns in the end, and Jewel Anemones, Cup Coral, Sponges and Sea Mat on the roof. Look out for Moray Eels near the entrance and don't miss the sight of the bubbles percolating through the rock and sand above the Cathedral on your way back.
