5 Mile Reef

The reef has the most diverse coral community at Sodwana, hence it is a dive area reserved for advanced divers who have good buoyancy control. Extensive beds of staghorn, mushroom and plate corals ensure a fascinating community of reef inhabitants can be found here. As five mile is further out than the main 2mile reef it is dived less often and there is a surcharge to get there. It is worth the extra cash though. Access to this site is by boat only. Boats launch from Jesser point and the boat ride is longer than to two mile. Dive to the further reefs is usually limited to fair weather due to the travel time.
