Divers will travel far and wide to find the best diving. But those who live in the United States have plenty of great diving on their doorstep as well, with plentiful access to the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. From warm-water reefs to temperate seas, here are some of the top places to scuba dive in the United States.

United States

No Buoy: find the site by triangulating yourself using the largest building in the park (south) and the flagpole near the B&B (east); exactly 45' deep.

Seneca Lake has  constant temp of 39.2 degrees from its springs - COLD!  In lake summer, the top 15 feet or so can warm up into the upper 70's, but there's not much to see in the shallow areas due to zebra muscles. Certainly dry suit conditions for that! Max depth of the lake is 618 ft.

A collection of barges on the southwest end of the lake, near the village of Watkins Glen, is being preserved and made accessible for scuba diving by the Finger Lakes Underwater Preserve Association.

Access to this site is provided by the Finger Lakes Underwater Preservation Association (FLUPA). A map of many wrecks in this area can be found at www.flupa.org. If you dive here, please log your visit on a slate at 15' depth on the mooring line.

Drop to bottom of mooring line and land on remnant of a barge at 30'(The Step Barge).  

Head 020N magnetic for 200' to find large barge in 50'-70' of water.

Head south from mooring about the same distance to find a smaller barge lying in 30'-50' of water.

The 50'-70' barge is still in excellent shape, only the stern has collapsed.  Visibility can be quite good at times thanks to the zebra mussels which cover the entire area.  If there is a strong north or south wind, there may be a moderate current.

This site is marked by a buoy maintained by FLUPA just south of the US Salt Plant, there is a mooring buoy attached.

The US Coast Guard Boat 56022 was a converted landing craft (LCM). It sank in a storm December 1, 1977.

The lake has been around for hundreds of years as a recreational place and there are plenty of treasures to be found.  Lots of bottles, sunken boats, anchors, fishing rods/reals and more.  Some old timbers too.

PA Fish and Boat Commission public access on the southeast corner of the lake.  Mostly private docks, get permission from the owners if not diving from the public launch.

Lake Winola

Natural spring fed lake with summer boat activity.

Chapman Lake is a private lake and access is with permission only.  It is spring fed and best to dive with a dry suit.  Water temperature below 20' is usually 46 degrees F year round with surface water in the 60's to 70's during the summer.  There are sunken boats in a few areas.  Visibility is typical for fresh water but slightly better than average on most days.

Drift down the Niagara Parkway exiting at the Frenchman's creek in a parking area with a brown shed 2.3 KM's East downstream of the river ending at 1283 Niagara Parkway.

Divers Enter at Niagara Parkway & 12-15 Jarvis St. (you'll see a parking area on the river)

International Train Bridge

This is a spring fed lake. There is a lot of natural cover and wildlife. If you bring a boat you can get to some nice spots or swim from the boat launch.
