#6 - Albatross passage

At an incoming tide this narrow passage is like fish soup. Eagle Rays, Mobula Rays, big Dogtooth Tunas, Barracudas, plenty of Grey Reef Sharks and loads of other fish can be seen here on almost every dive. The wall itself is overgrown with big fan corals, black corals and sponges and this is the home for small creatures like Nudibranchs, Leaf Scorpionfish and Pygmy Seahorse. In our opinion Albatross is the best dive in the Kavieng area and a must for every visiting diver (www.lissenung.com)
#7 - Lemus Island

Drift around the southern point of the island.
Better starting on the left side and ending on the right side at about a nice small white sand beach breaking through the reef.
Lots of fish and fan corals.
Access by boat, 20-25 min. from Kavieng

This is probably the most beautiful drift dive in Kavieng. Fantastic hard corals in the shallows and huge fan corals from 20m (65ft) downwards make a beautiful scenery. And as you drift along you may see Mobula Rays, Turtles, Sea Snakes and of course some Sharks (www.lissenung.com)

You may encounter Seahorse, six different species of Clownfish, Cockatoo Waspfish, Crocodile Fish, all up almost 175 different species of fish call our small house reef their home. Off the island is also the wreck of a small yacht, which was sunk in the 70ies. Source: lissenung.com

Three pinnacles starting at 120ft and dropping away to huge depths (300ft+). Excellent vis mostly. Great marine biodiversity.
This great dive sits halfway in between Lae and Salamaua-the Sand Bridge. There are other numerous dive sites here, such as the flat top Mecca. i shall add these when I find my old log book. It has wall to wall soft corals, sponges, gorgonians (8ft+ in length) etc.
It has it all. I have met other who have dived there too and all rave about it.
Trips to Salamaua can be arranged by Dive Ventures Australia.
#16 - Lion Island (Manunouha Island)
Papua New Guinea, Pacific

Directly out from the sandy beach toward the mainland is, well, more sand, and the wreck of a recent fiberglass sloop. Of far more interest is the reef wall and old steel shipwreck off to the right side of the island, as you face the mainland. The depths there run from 0 to 60 feet / 18 m. The life is SPECTACULAR. This area, as with all of Papua New Guinea, is simply a continuation of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. You'll see an incredible variety of life in 60' visibility, including basket starfish, woebegone, spider shells, cowries, lionfish, and a rainbow of butterfly fish.
Located east from Port Moresby, in the center of a bay near the Papua New Guinea university research facility & a small boat harbor. Only reachable by car followed by (any kind of) boat, but then you dive off the beach at Lion Island....so it's technically a shore dive.
