Dave 1's Dive Log

Went on a whim but was not disappointed. Several friends and I spent about 60 minutes poking around the cavern. The grate blocking off the rest of the caves was a neat place to hang out just to feel the water pressure pushing into the "ballroom". Not much for fish but the few we did see were rather large. Nice clear water, and relaxing for me as this was only my 8th ever dive. I would go back if for no other reason to show the family. Service at the resort was great.

Well, I must agree with Anon...but again, it is a place to get wet in Colorado. Bring a rope, about 12 feet long so you and your buddy do not have to ascend to locate each other as the vis rarely gets better than 1-3 feet. Basically muck diving, find stuff the other folks may have lost and a great place to work on navs

Fun sight to dive with family. We arrived very early, and were in the water by 0800. When we came back up around 0900, what a crowd we met. vis was only around 50-60 feet, not the mass of fish one sees in the carib, but the lava flows/tubes were impressive. Saw several turtles and eels and all in all an enjoyable dive for the family.

As a newly certified "rookie dweeb" diver, Vaersen Bay was my 10th dive without an instructor. To add more "excitement" to the mix, It was my wife's 1st non instructor dive and my first ever, "follow me because I have more experience dive" <shudder>. Hence, not a lot of experience here to back up any scores but the dive was great. Entry was easy, we swam out about 200 yards to the buoy and descended to about 20-25 feet just short of the wall. We descended to 60 feet and navigated back and forth using a huge purple barrel sponge. Vis was around 75 feet. The area had been torn up by bad weather so when we went, July 8th, 2000, some of the coral was damaged and visibility was not as good as it could have been. As far as facilities went there were none, with the exception of the ever present Island folks selling snacks and such. I have to admit though, I liked the fact that no one was around except for LeAnne and I, and of course the Islander selling Amstel Brite and Water :) Fun dive!
