Louise Vachon's Dive Log

Great dive site, easy parking, short walk down some stairs to the beach, but the entry is rocky and a little slippery. You can either go right out of the bay towards 10 Mile Point or to the left along a rocky shoreline. We chose left as novice divers because 10 Mile Point is notorious for current, although we dove close to slack tide. We read that going right has more life but wow the left was pretty spectacular anyway! So many different crabs, starfish, and fish, we swam through 'neighborhoods' of giant sea anenomies then huge Purple Sea Urchins, saw several nudibranches and tons of Sea Cucumbers. Relatively good visibility and almost no current as we stayed near the shore.

Easy dive site, always good parking but the gate closes at 8pm. Walk around a few logs and down the beach, which is soft sinking pebbles wearing all your gear! Sandy bottom with lots of bottom fish and crabs to entertain on your swim out to the little island, which you can easily see from the beach, lots of life at the island, you can swim right around it with enough air to get back. In the spring the kelp growing around the island is thick so you have to peak underneath and wow there's lots under there, probably a better dive in the winter when the kelp dies down. The back side of the island has quite a large bull kelp forest to navigate. The highlight of this dive was an inquisitive harbour seal who played with us for some time. This site also had good visibility which at this time of year can be hard to find.
