This dive is all about South American sea lions (Otaria byronia). You are diving in front of a 5000 sea lion colony. The dive consists of diving down the anchor line to 22 meters of depth, where you sit on the sand and enjoy and interact with dozens of sea lions that curiously swim around you. Attention: Sea lions may make body contact with divers.

Previously organized or in advance booked dive trips on demand do start from the local fishing pier of Chorillos, Lima (You can not just go there and get a boat - you need to book with a diving company in Lima)

El Chuncho is a tiny bay on the island of Pucusana port. Because of its all year calm waters it is used for training by Peruvian dive schools.  It's a great place for people that dive the first time in Peru and want to slowly adjust to the strong wave movements along the Peruvian coast. There is a thick kelp forest in the bay. When diving there one should start diving the kelp forest in the center of the bay and end by diving along the wall. El Chuncho is always good for a surprise. Many times you can find unusual species in this dive spot.

Non-national divers must rent their diving equipment or organize their trip in Lima. There is no dive center in Pucusana. Access: Drive the Panamerican Highway south direction to Paracas till you reach the exit for Pucusana, continue till you get to the port.

The entry to the site is from the pebble beach.  Exercise extreme caution with the surf in this area upon entry and exit.  Once you are in the water head out to about 10m depth and descend.  It is best to head SW and work around the large rocks.  This site has lots of kelp and the associated marine life.  Ocean sunfish also frequent the zone.

To get to this site you head towards la Isla Santa Maria by the marked road.  When you get to the small mine you turn off the paved road and head north into the desert.  This is best done with a 4x4 but can be managed in a 4x2 if you now how to navigate soft material.  You will be following a well distinguished ridge until you get to ocean after about a 20 minute drive.  Use the GPS coordinates and find the road into the zone.
