This is a popular training site for the Punta Cana region.  Diver may use a weighted decent line to reach sea floor.

It is not exactly sure when and under which circumctances the Astron sank. Some oral traditions say, it was in December 1979, when the vessel travelling under panamanian flag hit the reef. 
The rumors about the reason go from 'drunk & sleeping captain' to 'owner wanted insurance money'.
It is said that after the accident many habitants came to loot the wreck and take everything what was not nailed down. Allegedly some Dominicans still store there things in closets from that day.

Astron Wreck

Patato is a very nice dive site with wonderful coral formations and coral tunnel systems. Really beautiful to dive there at around noon, when the sun rays shine trough small holes into the caves.
Outside the reef depth is average 12m (max 13.6).
Sometimes nurse sharks can be found under rocks and in small caves.
When you dive trough one of the many tunnels and get to the sandy part inside the reef depth is about 7m.
On guided tours you will be shown the amazing caves, tunnels and coral formations at this dive site.
Depending on the ocean/waves there is surge and visibility varies between 10m and 30m.

Local dive centers almost at every hotel offer boat dives at Patato.

Nice site with caves and tunnels, easy to dive also for beginners, the caves and tunnels are not difficult, especially with an instructor or guide. If you want to try a cave to see how it works it would be perfect there.

This is a popular open water training site in the Punta Cana region/zone.  

Rondana

Rock formations (appr 5 to 10 in parallel on the sandy ground, basic orientation is right angle to the coast) with some corals, nice to dive between the parallel formations and over to the next one
