Loblolly Cove

At low tide, the water is about 100 yards from the parking area. Rocks and kelp make up most of this area. There is a sandy stretch that can get you to the water's edge. If you need to take a breather on your dive, just swim up to the small island in the middle of the cove and enjoy the scenery!

The two reviews below are very helpful. Very scenic, large cove. Don't even bother coming here at low tide; however, if you want to see what the dive site looks like from the shore, then low tide will show you because the tide shift is that dramatic. Entry here ranges from easy at high tide to pretty hard at low tide, especially from the rocky right side. Tons of medium and small boulders for creatures to hide in and around. This is a really cool dive but parking is a major issue if you aren't a local with a residence sticker. The dive police will show up and tow you. If you have a non-diver along then do this dive so they can stay in the car or do the driving back and forth from Pebble Beach.

This is one of the few places where you can do a point-to-point dive. Enter the beach on the left and exit on the rocks at the right around the point. Not a bad dive with some cool topography over on the rocky side.

Loblolly is really two dives sites in one. You can dive either side of the peninsula, entering either on the sandy beach side or the rocky side. We like to enter on the sandy side, swim around the peninsula and exit on the rocky side. The rocky side is a difficult entry & exit at low tide. Hit it at high tide. Often see lots of lobsters, sand shrimp, stone fish and lots of other critters. Viz is usually pretty good for New England, maybe 15 or 20 feet. Can't park here without a local parking sticker! Don't even try! You'll get towed! Drop your gear, and park at Pebble Beach on the far side. It's about a 10 minute walk.
