I have been diving on a number of jetties along the Gulf Coast and found this site to be very enjoyable for a number of reasons. Access to the jetties is an easy walk, even with gear in the summer, and the rock lined pool on the shore side of the wall makes a good staging point for dive buddies. To leave the pool and cross over to the channel side time your kick to coincide with wave action out of the channel. This will let you cross over without becoming a sea urchin pincushion. Even so, be sure to wear gloves. Once you make it over, there is a good variety of marine life (Sgt. majors, small grouper, stingrays, crabs etc). On my last dive at this spot I saw a large 250lb+ jewfish. Be aware of fishing lines, active and discarded, as well as boat traffic. This is a fun dive on a high slack tide, with 35-50 feet of vis on a good day.
