Lighthouse Point

Watch your current and depth, and enjoy a great dive! The entry is sand and coral. Watch for where the road bears to the right, then continue forward down the one-lane coral road. Parking is ample above the beach. A view toward the North. Looking South, watch for the land marks. Turn right down the dirt road.

I wanted to dive from Delfins Resort since Dive Friends Bonaire is the operator there. Beautiful resort but there did not appear to be tanks available near the beach; we brought ours from another location. There are small rinse tanks but one was empty. Entry is easy down four or five wooden steps to a coral rubble beach in a 'boat basin'. Fairly long swim out to the reef. The mooring is far south of the resort, but there is a bottle tied to a coral head in 28 ft water. The current was ripping from the north on our dive! Reef has decent hard and soft corals on the slope, plus many sponges. We saw many fish (since our north swim was real slow!) including a big tarpon, queen angels, and creole wrasse.

There are 2 entry points. We used the entry point from Delfins Beach Resort. The resort has a local shop run by Dive Friends. The facilities are amazing. Everything you need is available. There is a short 3 step handrail to get down the shore but it is full of rocks and dead coral like the most of Bonaire. We went in February 2018 and it is well-advised to go in the morning when the waves are calm. We went in the afternoon approx 4pm and the waves from shore were about 1 metre high (enough to fully submerged your head). Visibility was about 4 metres due to the rough currents. After about a 10 minute swim out, you will see the reef slope down into the abyss. We ended bottoming at 23 metres and visibility was clear to about 30m and currents were okay. Most of the fish were small, with the biggest being a rainbow parrotfish. Reef was very abundant.

The site is no longer accessible due to development of buildings in that area. We spent 1/2 hour driving around and could not find the site. Talking to our dive shop at Buddy's they confirmed that the site is no longer available.

We actually stayed at the Lighthouse Beach Resort in a condo. I highly recommend doing that since you have a dive site on premises to go whenever you want. I did not experience any of the conditions mentioned here previously. It was very easy to enter with not much current. I guess it depends on when you visit the site. It is one of the few places that actually has a beach on the whole island of Bonaire so that was nice for the wife to enjoy while I dove. The site is typical of the southern sites in that you can dive them in the afternoon whereas the northern sites tend to get a little blown out.

Because of the current a very nice but very rough site. Large and much soft coral (not seen any other dive site at Bonaire). Hard to get in, fast current while diving, dangerous to get out.
