Ke'e Beach

Just snorkeled inside. There were a couple of turtles and less fish than Poipu, but if you drive out here for the hiking trail, it is a great place to cool off snorkeling with kids. The inside is very shallow, maybe 12' at most. Great view from the trail above.

We only snorkeled here, but I would really like to come back and dive the channel to the south side. There were lots of cracks and crevices and fun-looking stuff to dive. I dunno, maybe the current outside the reef would be a little strong, but I figure as long as you go out against it, you should have it coming back. Plus, it seemed like you could dive a decent ways (maybe 50 yards) before you truly got outside the reef. At that time you would just be in the channel and I didn't feel any current there.

This is a good snorkeling spot, I would not recommend you waste your time driving all the way here to dive.

I snorkeled this spot late in the afternoon. I was surprised to find parking at 4:00 and the beach wasn't too crowded. However, as stated, parking here can be a nightmare. This is a great protected spot for snorkeling on the inside part of the reef where you can see many Hawaiian fish. However, if you are a strong swimmer go out to the outside part of the reef. Know your limits; if you don't think that you can make it past the breakers then don't go! On the day I was there conditions were very calm. The outside part of the reef has great drop offs and this is where I spotted 30 Green Sea Turtles within 100 feet of me feeding on the top of the reef. It was a amazing to see so many in one spot. Tons of other species of fish and great visibility. Remember to not touch the reef as you swim over it as human contact damages it. And don't touch the turtles, since they are a protected species. Again, only go to the outside part of the reef if conditions permit and if you are a strong swimmer.

Ke'e is a great place to snorkel. The inexperienced can get a thrill on the inside of the reef and the experienced can go outside for a bit more. There are some good coral heads on the outside along with plenty of turtles and good variety of fish life.

Ke'e Lagoon is fine if you just want to get wet in 10'-15' of water. Parking is horrible if you get there after nine a.m. It's at the end of the road at the beginning of the Napali coast/north shore. Great beach and easy entry but best left for the backpackers/hikers. Inside lagoon is sand bottom, few fish, packed with tourists and little kids almost anytime. Stay inside lagoon unless your advanced. Very narrow, surgey,rocky channel leads to outside reef. I went to right/east which is the gently sloping rocky reef. Not much on it as the crashing surf & surge have kept it pretty barren. Did have a sea turtle swim up to me and saw a few fish but not much else. Surge, rocks can be treacherous outside and getting out- at least the day that I dove. Overall a fair dive at best. But way better than being at work!

Nice sheltered entry with lots of turtles and fish on outside of reef. Get there by 7 or 8 and you'll have the place to yourself. Get there by 2 and you won't find a parking place!

Good parking and access. Hint... enter parking area, continue past bathrooms to the left and drive along narrow trail for a few yards to small, hidden parking area. Room there for 6-8 cars right next to beach. Last there May 2000. Winter storms had completely filled inside reef with sand. Water no more than 3' deep. Usually best snorkling for beginners and kids inside reef. Good small fish. have seen Turtles, Monk Seal and Reef Shark inside and on the reef. Can get crowded during prime-time.
