Snorkeling and Scuba Diving at White Slave
Since White Slave is approaching a bend in the coast line, it offers a slightly varied seascape. You have to go over the amazing coralreef system to see turtles, barracudas, large schools of fish. On the way back to where you started, cruise over the sandy part and meet the whirling-the-sand eagle rays. We saw 4 at a single dive.
White slave is a registered divesite and has a yellow stone on the roadside. Just plonge in and be amazed.
The first set of slave huts you see heading South from the Salt Pier (about 2.7 km) will be White Slave.

healthy swim out over the sand bar to the reef. Visibility is good tho and you can spot some eel and flounder in the sand. Not a busy site, we were the only divers around.

The kick-out is a bit more than most sites. When you see 7 meters between you and the bottom, rest a bit, then disappear into the blue!
Parking is among the many still-remaining huts used by the slaves of the Salt Works in the 1800's -- a sobering view.
The entry is as easy as any of the other sites along this stretch.

A beautiful dive site, this one is 'protected' from shore divers by a long expanse of shallow white sand that makes for a long kick. We dove this with scooters, that made short work of the trip. The sand is sparkling clean and pure white. This extends over the edge of the drop off into the fields of enormous Gorgonians in perfect health, and the reflectivity of the white sand makes everything bright and well-lit, adding to the amazing ambience. Make sure you grab a handful of sand off the bottom to feel just how soft it is! We dove during slack tide, and there still was an appreciable current. The scooters again made this a non-issue, but divers who were afoot reported it to be tiring. This was our top dive site for the week...until, that is, we dove Sweet Dreams.

Beautiful site with turtles. We did it early morning. After one hour of dive the current and surf were already worst... not for a beginner.

White Slave is fantastic, especially for night diving. I love Bonaire -- it's #1.
